REAL TECHNIQUES MODERN NATURAL MAKEUPKIT REVIEW

The Pixiwoo sisters are talented makeup artists who got huge on YouTube. Sam and Nic now are successful business women and run Real Techniques, the company they founded. It seems that everyone and their mom owns Real Techniques brushes today. The quality is so good and the price is amazing. Obviously we were just waiting for the day they'd release eyeshadow palettes!

As soon as I got the email saying "Our new palettes are up - limited time only" I think I was one of the first people to click "purchase". The delivery was quick and easy and now here I am, ready to review it!

FIRST LOOK

The palette costs $25 and can only be purchased online on the real techniques site. It comes with 4 eyeshadows: 3 shimmery and 1 matte. It also has 1 brown gel liner, 2 lip glosses, a blush and a cream highlighter.

SWATCHES

From left to right:

Quicksand ; Gold Metal ; Caramel Mocha ; Nightshade (Eyeshadows)

Coral Sunset (Blush) ; Champagne (Highlight)

Copperhead ; Nectar (Lipglosses)

Dark Chocolate (Gel liner)

The eyeshadows are very buttery and quite pigmented. They go on very smooth and with an eyeshadow primer and  stay on for hours and hours even on my oily eyelids. Big plus comes also from the fact that one of the shades is a matte and it's comparable quality to the Lorac Pro. Love it. The gel liner is fine. It's dark brown but goes on sheer so you need to build it up to get a darker look. I would have preferred another eyeshadow stuck in there rather than a gel liner but to each their own.

The blush is amazing. Very pigmented yet goes on looking SO natural and smooth. This is matte too and gives you a light flush of colour so you pale gals will adore it. The highlighter is in cream form and it's very nice. I'm not a huge fan of highlighters in general but this one did a nice job and made me look naturally glowing.

The lip-glosses are sheer, non-sticky and don't have any heavy scent. Just a little bit of candy in there that disappears as soon as you apply it. One (copperhead) has very fine specs of gold that are hardly visible on your lips - so if you're like me and hate glittery glosses you got nothing to worry about! The other gloss (nectar) is clear. I would have liked one of them to be more pigmented - maybe a nice summery pink or peach shade? I'm not complaining though, they're perfect for travel and everyday!

PROS

Pigmented Shadows
Nice blush and highlight
A multitude of products in one package
Travel-size glosses that you could stick in a purse

CONS

Bulky packaging
Sheer gel liner (that could dry out in time and have no use for it after that?)

Overall I think it's pretty good and I know I'll get a lot of use out of it because I love eyeshadows and play with makeup everyday! I would say if you're starting with makeup/know someone that is just getting into the beauty world, then this would be the perfect gift. If you're a palette addict like me then it's pretty cool to have it. I will admit though that it's nothing we've never seen before! The colours are probably present in any other neutral eyeshadow palette on the market.

  8. I think natural shades are completely underrated in the beauty world. I never feel like there are enough nudes, creams and skin-coloured pinks out there! I have Real Techniques brushes and absolutely LOVE them so would be tempted to try this. Great post.

  11. Helpful review. Surprised to hear you say they were buttery eyeshadows as they look kinda powdery? Thx.

    1. Interestingly enough when I was actually playing with them they were really buttery and nice but for some reason on my arm they didn't swatch as well as they should have. Probably cause I am super dry! haha
      Good point though!

  13. i'm glad this lived up to the hype of the RT brand, although that's annoying with the liner ! I love neutrals, i think it's as bad as my nail varnish obsession haha

  16. The packaging is lovely, although personally I think the products look a little cheap (especially the lipglosses) *my own opinion*, However I do think the colour swatches are gorgeous! So to me it's pretty deceiving, as I'd love to give this product a try!

  17. The shadow shades are beautiful, and I love the look of the blusher too! I'd be worried about the gel liner drying out, though :/
