KYLIE JENNER - BEAUTY ICON or SELFIE ICON? + Recreate Her Signature Look

Embracing the selfie action using my phone rather than my DSLR.

Hi, my name is Kristina and I am slightly obsessed with everything Kardashian/Jenner related, especially MAKEUP.

The first step to get over your problem is admitting you have one, right?

We can try and deny it as much as we like, but Kylie Jenner is steadily becoming the next big hit after her sister Kim when it comes to makeup and fashion inspiration. At least for me and whole bunch of young women who do like her for one reason or another. Her social media accounts are booming daily and whenever she posts a snapchat story or a new picture I do religiously check it- bit sad isn't it? Thing is.. I'm not the only one.

I've been thinking lately "Is she a beauty icon or is she just a selfie queen?". The art of the selfie is something that got big lately and if someone would have mentioned even just 5 years ago the minutes (if not hours) people spend trying to look cool on social media I swear we would have all cringed. It sounds really vain, but no one can deny trying to look real good on either twitter or Instagram at least once in their lifetime. As a blogger, it's part of the package trying to build your own brand and your own personality online.

Now, about Kylie. Yes, it could be all down to "filter and good lighting" as she says, but there are a few factors that in my opinion could make her the next makeup gal people turn to when they need inspiration. With this I'm not trying to encourage 12 year olds to pile on makeup - I started wearing foundation when I was 16 myself and really fell for the beauty of lipsticks and mascaras when I was 18. Obviously this will vary from person to person and the newest generations are definitely doing lots of things prematurely but denying that people look up to this seventeen year old would be lying.

Since last year Velvet Teddy has been regularly selling out from all the Mac counters, after people found out that was her most used lipstick (same story goes for Whirl Lip Liner) really showing how much of an impact she has not only on young girls but women in general. People were actually convinced that by over-lining their lips they would achieve the effect that lip augmentation has, which we know by now it's all dreams and no reality.

Nevertheless I decided to admit to myself and my readers that I am kind of a big fan of her makeup. Yes, I know she has a makeup artist - a few actually, that I would hire for my wedding day in a heartbeat - but being around them all the time since a young age has taught her some awesome skills and even when she does her own look it's still bang on perfect. I decided to go a little crazy and show you what products I think she would use and why to recreate her signature look. These are pretty perfect for summer in general so I'm sure that you'll take something out of it anyway in case you don't really care about her or her makeup.

KYLIE JENNER MAKEUP MUST-HAVES

Bare Escentuals sun care, £17 / Beauty product, £8.85 / Clinique face makeup, £13 / Benefit cosmetic, £16 / Brow makeup / Lancôme matte foundation, £29 / Too Faced Cosmetics black mascara, £7.58 / Urban Decay matte eyeshadow / Nars cosmetic, £18

BASE:

- BareMinerals Prep Step: In a recent interview Kylie shared her top beauty secret which is to always, ALWAYS use SPF on hands and face before leaving the house every day. The prep step does just that but avoiding the dreaded greasy effect some products leave.

- Benefit Porfessional: This has been a recent discovery for me. After years of hearing endless raves, I have given this a shot. I'm enjoying it so far and I definitely think it's a must-have for women with pores who like to really get a flawless base before starting their makeup routine.

- Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24h: My current favourite foundation. I reviewed this little gem a while back and the reason I chose it is because Kylie likes the matte look just like me. You don't really see lots of highlight on her cheeks usually and it's important to have a matte base that will last throughout the day without flaking or fading awkwardly.

Nars Radient Creamy Concealer: Possibly one of the best concealer on the market, not only great for under the eyes but also to cover any blemishes or imperfections. It doesn't cling on dry patches and it doesn't dry to actually highlight the area you're trying to cover like some products do.

FACE:

- Benefit Gimme Brow: ah, brows! These little guys frame your shape so make sure to always have them looking fabulous. Personally I don't need much filling so all I do is improve what I have by using a brow mascara to keep the hair in place and add some extra shape.

- Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour: We all know this family is known for their fearless contouring so this little number by Clinique is ideal for sculpting and so easy to use. I blend it with a stippling brush and boom - hello cheekbones! Sometimes when I want to be dramatic I use a powder on top.

- Urban Decay Setting Spray: Nobody wants their hard work to go to waste now, do we? Powders can look cakey when used loads so I tend to start off my day with a spray to seal the paint on my face for good.

EYES:

- Urban Decay Naked Basics: One of the best palettes for travel and for the "throw on makeup in 5 minutes" type days where you really want to look good but natural at the same time.

- Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: Ahem, just by the name you know this little guy promises some good results and wow, it delivers! My lashes are voluminous, long and really open up my eyes.

LIPS:

- Mac Stripdown lip liner: Oh yes, you thought I was going to go for Whirl or Soar? I would have, but lately I see her sporting more of a nude! She has been definitely taking inspiration from Kim and I can see why, nude lips are always a win.

The shades I suggest using are Faint+naked 2 on the outer corner and WOS blended all over to add dimension and complete the look.

The perfect pinky brown lip combo is Stripdown + Faux

  8. I've heard a lot of good things about Benefit Porfessional but since I don't use anything like it at the moment it feels like an extra cost I can't justify! I would love to try it though, maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas! (Sorry, thinking too far ahead!).

  10. gorgeous recreation! I think everyone is so impressionable when it comes to any celeb in the public eye but Kylie Jenner looks beautiful so it's hard not to want to look like her isn't it? - I still can't get hold of Whirl or Soar lip liner which is annoying, especially because I don't even want it to go with Velvet Teddy haha!

  22. You need all that stuff to look like that?! I had no idea! I'm not a makeup person. I slap on a bit of moisturiser in the morning and some mascara (I'm ginger, I need mascara) and that's it. I really ought to explore this cosmetics thing further though - it could be fun. How long does it take to put on all that stuff in the morning? Good luck with your entry for the House of Fraser thing - fingers crossed for you! :)

  32. Beautiful look my dear, you are defrost gonna win this! You have the look down. I entered this too but I'm just a newbie in the blogging world so don't stand a chance. I chose Emma Watson ^-^ for my icon. I think an icon is a very personal thing as we all like different people, they don't have to be vintage like Monroe or Hepburn.
