I don't think there's need to even introduce this new makeup line, Kylie Cosmetics, since for the past few months it's been plastered all over social media. We all want a piece but we just can't seem to get our hands on it. I've been one of those hard-core makeup obsessed people who has been there for almost every launch, and whilst I'm still building my complete collection of Lip Kits (I miss 3), I thought it would be nice to review the lip glosses instead.
As you may have noticed from recent fashion shows and magazines spreads, the matte lip is taking a bit of a break and glosses and natural makeup in general is coming back. I'll be honest, my gloss collection is pretty weak, as I find them annoying to re-apply every other hour and most of the product ends up in my hair somehow. I did really want to try this collection though as the shades appealed to me and I kind of got sucked in the whole hype.
I was one of the un-lucky people who bought the first batch which contained the terrible wands. After I saw many people complain about their delivery (which at that point I didn't receive), I was quite anxious to see if mine was going to result in the same catastrophic result - a gloss which I paid way too much for and that I couldn't really use. After the whole drama with Jeffree Star speaking out about quality control, Kylie apparently re-sent new glosses to all the people who ordered from the bad batch.
Well, my 'bad' package never arrived however I did receive the three glosses a month later with two good wands and an old one from the bad bunch which I guess was a random number that somehow remained around and ended up in my box, again. Fabulous.
To cut things short, customer service never got back to me which I find a little disappointing considering this a multi-million machine that failed again with quality control and which is not willing to reply to customers and fix the issue.
Packaging: People are quite 50/50 with it but I actually quite enjoy the packaging outside. The postman thought it looked like blood coming out the box as the whole thing, including the delivery box they came in had this 'liquid spill' effect. I am not a fan of the inside though as it seems to be missing that little stopper that all glosses/liquid lipsticks should have which gets rid of excess product. I find the wands to pick up way too much product so it's easy to over-apply it and look like a clown.
Product: The colours are great, I like all of them though the lightest one, SO CUTE, is a little too light for me to use on its own. I tend to apply it on top of a lipstick and usually only at the centre of my lips. The gloss is thick so your natural colour gets pretty much completely covered and like I said before, you need to be careful and avoid applying too much. In some sense that's good since it means you need a tiny amount and it goes a long way. The good thing about these glosses is that they're not sticky but they also don't go all over your face. It's worth noting that they have a heavy smell of vanilla which I personally love but some may find too sickly.
Final Thoughts: Are these the best glosses EVER? No. But I do like them.
I think that I mainly find it hard to give them a 10/10 due to the poor customer service and the bad wand. I bought the lip kits before and I never had a bad experience so I'm a little gutted as a fan and a makeup lover. I can only hope it's an episode and that they will improve their customer service since I'd like to get a few more things from this brand.
