It's been a while since I talked about eyeshadow palettes around here and what better way to bring this topic up again than feature the latest neutrals on the market?! Finally The Body Shop joined in, producing not one, not two but six options for all the eyeshadow lovers out there. From greys to plums, you can satisfy your soul with quads or a proper palette.
I've been testing these the past week or so, as you may have seen me open the blogger mail on my snapchat last week (WhatKrisDid) and I'm impressed! Thought I'd briefly take you on a little review tour of all of the ones I received. I wasn't asked to review these nor paid to but as I love the brand and the products (and I know many of you do too), I thought it would be cool to give you my opinion and a little overview.
DOWN TO EARTH - THE PALETTE
I can't lie, I was attracted to this palette straight away as I always favoured palettes to quads for every day use. The Down to Earth palette* retails for £22 and comes with 8 shades with matte and iridescent shimmers. The cool thing about this is that these shades can be 'clicked out' of the palette and you can insert any shade from the other quads in here. It does come pre-filled though so you can't pick the colours before purchasing.
I thought that the pigmentation was great. The mattes blended easily and the shimmers were subtle unless you wanted a pop, in which case all you need to do is wet the brush. The price brigs this to the mid-range market but I love the idea of swapping colours later on and customising it the way you want.
SMOKY BROWN QUAD
The first quad I tried is of course the Smoky Brown* quad. I really like it as it's simple and easy to wear. It hasn't really "wowed" me as much as some of the others as the colours are predictable BUT in all fairness, you have four options and a neutral/brown theme so what was I expecting?
It's a great number for earthy-toned lovers and people who like to stay in the comfort zone. As a four-piece I think this a complete set as there's a brow highlight/base, something for the crease and then something to smoke it up. I have no complaints for the quality and I truly think that if this is your colour-palette you will love it.
SMOKY BLACK QUAD
This is the 'scariest' palette for me as I never really wear blue shades but a couple of days ago I was going out with some gal-pals and I wanted to step outside my comfort zone so I decided to test this little gem*. I actually loved the blue against my brown eyes. The colours were pretty easy to blend although I would have preferred an extra matte to make the crease more smokey. I would suggest using this with a wet brush as I think that the blue will look more eye-catching when a little darker and intense.
SMOKY PLUM QUAD
This quad* is possibly my favourite as I adore all the shades. From light rose gold to copper for the lid, and plum-taupe for some badass blending in the crease, can it get any more perfect? This is a complete 'set' and I will take it with me anywhere I go! I find the brown to be the most buttery and soft finish and creating any day to night look with this number is just easy and fun.
SMOKY GREY QUAD
The Grey quad* is an interesting combination for me as I haven't spotted many palettes like this on the market. First of all, it's not grey, it's an off-olive with grey undertones, which makes it quite mesmerising to observe in the pan. I love it for evening and for autumn and winter, as it reminds me of a frosty forest with snow and ice. That's probably not a very pleasant thought for most but I like the time around Christmas. Anyway, I tried it last week and straight away I loved how it made my eyes 'pop' without washing out my complexion. Paired with a killer highlighter like Becca's Pearl, you can look like the ice queen! ADORE. Again, I also appreciate a good matte for the crease. The blending game on this one was spot on.
The quads retail for £15 each and I personally love them. I found the application to be smooth and non flakey through the whole line and for the shadows to have amazing even coverage. I believe I'm missing a gold quad that you can check on the site, but I like the idea of these different colour matches to suit every different person. It's great for people who want to travel and take 4 shades, not an entire palette with them, it's affordable, the packaging is sleek and you can totally try a different colour-combination without breaking the bank, also knowing the quality is awesome and you won't be disappointed.
It's worth noting that the shadows are vegan, suitable for sensitive skin, they're enriched with babassu oil and high purity pigments but contain NO petroleum or mineral oil.
Let me know what you think if you swatched these and I hope you enjoy the photos!
