Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kits Review | Kylie Cosmetics Dupes?

I get anxious when I have to buy gig tickets, especially for bands that sell out in seconds, but never have I EVER thought in a million years that I would be anxiously pressing refresh on a site to grab some makeup. I mean, I love lipsticks and blushes and all that, but...really?
Well, never say never, as just a few months ago I was one of those desperate people trying to snatch a Kylie Cosmetics lip kit before they became a little more available and well stocked like now.

Maybe I've been living under a rock since, but I haven't noticed any other brand trying to recreate a LIP KIT like Kylie did. Not until last week when I ventured into the isles of my local Superdrug to find this little gem at the Makeup Revolution stand. I was like "yeah, you're coming home with me" and since then I've been wearing it almost every day (or whenever I bother to slap makeup on since the past two days I've been ill).

Price: £6
Colour: Reign - unlike what I imagined from the tube, this is more of a soft peachy pink, rather than a nude-pink, if that makes sense. You can see me wearing it in this post
The Lip Liner: Easy to apply, quite soft so it could break easily but other than that, it's gorgeous to rock on its own as well.
The Liquid Lipstick: When I first applied it, it reminded me of the Nyx soft matte lip creams as it has a mousse consistency and it feels more airy and light, unlike those wet liquid lipsticks. The main difference is that the payoff is greater so you use less product and get great coverage with one swipe. It blended nicely and didn't leave any visible streaks. It can easily last 4-5 hours on the lips and it doesn't feel drying at all. On the other hand, it does leave a mark behind when you drink from a glass as it doesn't seem to fully dry. It has a slight sticky effect that you can feel only when you press your lips together and let go if that makes any sense. It doesn't bother me personally but it's something to consider.
Kylie Lip Kit Dupe? I would say that the concept is there but the consistency and finish of the products are different so...kind of? This is a great dupe for people who don't want to have dry lips and who also don't want to spend a small fortune to get the Kylie Cosmetics products. I mean, look at that price! You really can't go wrong.
Would I recommend it? Yep! Definitely give it a shot. I also hope that they'll come out with more colours.

  1. That's a lovely colour, it's very peachy but sounds like a steal if you're looking for a bit of a dupe. I'm a fan of make up revolution lip products at the moment, they seem to have a decent formula and nice colours.

  7. I'm actually rather intrigued! Didn't even hear of these coming out. Love a matte lip. I know Bourjois do a great range of matte lip products. Not too drying either! This product however looks like it might make it to my collection.

  8. The color looks great. I don't get the hype over the Kylie lip kits. I mean they come to around £60 when you add shipping and customs fees. People are only bothered about her because she is related to Kim Kardashian. If she wasn't related to her no one would be interested in her. I've also seen the applicators of these Revolution ones and they look much better than the Kylie ones. The brushes on hers frayed really easy. For £60 I could buy a proper brand like Chanel or NARS. I know where I would rather spend £60 and it wouldn't be with Kylie Jenner. I'd much rather get this £6.00 one. After all the Kylie lip kits are just a cheaper brand repackaged x

    1. Hmm I kinda disagree but personally I like the Kardashians so I guess we're meant to not agree haha
I actually prefer the kylie lip kits pretty much to all of the other liquid lipsticks I have tried so far - including colour pop.

  11. I saw these on MUR's instagram a few weeks ago and was very intrigued. I'd like to try it one day, but it won't be any time soon as we don't have them here in Australia and I'd need to order them online. Makeup Revolution has some of the best stuff, I love them as a brand!

Are you going to try the other colours?
